A couple of servers on 4 last week did not have command of the English language. Or chose not to. Rather than speak complete sentences they used one and two word phrases. There inability or unwillingness to use complete sentences became an issue after I ordered the chicken fried steak special for lunch. Usually chicken fried steak comes with a white gravy. They failed/chose not to describe the entire dish. I received chicken fried steak with abrown spicy sauce which made it inedible. Had I known the sauce was different I would have ordered something else. The server did see that I didn't like it and offered an exchange.
At breakfast the other server failed/chose not to offer all sides for the breakfast. I ordered French toast, and he said "bacon"? Never mentioned sausage. I ordered sausage and got it. I think this guy was lazy. He was hiding behind the language thing to do the minimum amount of work. So I shortened my tip to match his shortened syntax. At the amount Amtrak pays its employees they should be able and willing to speak English.
