Seems like Mobile has been let off the hook, at least temporarily, by DeLand, FL Amtrak only wants 3 mil plus to demolish and rebuilt a station that hasn't been used in ages by anyone including Silver Service. I guess once they get a new depot it'll be somebody elses turn to be the scape goat as to why the Sunset can't run eastward anymore...

I started reading the topic as if the station would move.. mobile, not fixed, like on wheels.

Quite a good idea, they could have it running alongside the train at the same speed, on a seperate track. Folk could join or leave the train at high speed because the station would be going at the same speed, then the station could slow down and stop. I can see my idea for speeding up train travel has somehow been overlooked worldwide.

It will need a new name though, as the station isn't, err, stationary.. Lets call it the Mobile Station.

Thinking ahead, on busy commuter routes, one could have the stations move and forget about the trains altogether. Gosh, this idea needs to be copyrighted pronto!

WOW! Non-stop cigarette breaks for those who"puff-puff-puff that cigarette!" If it comes to pass, they'll have to put another warning on the cigarette packs... "Stepping Away From the Platform May Be Hazardious to Your Health."

I'm pretty sure you mean Sanford rather than Deland, which as far as I know (I'm sure Slim could give the answer) is still in service.

Sanford (Auto Train) is, but Sanford (Silver trains) is not.
