I made my reservation over the phone in May and within the week went to the station and paid in person and got the ticket. I received an email overnight from amtrak saying "eTicket for your Upcoming Trip". In the email it states "Purchased 5/25/2013" & "Modified 6/5/2013". I have personally modified nothing. I have looked over the email and my corresponding original tickets and see absolutely no difference. Is this anything to be concerned about? The price is exactly the same as well. Thanks for any help!

The same thing happened to me on a big trip in April.

I was concerned and, like you, looked at everything and it all looked exactly the way I booked it but it wasn't.

It was fine but turned out to be a change in my connecting train departure time - 20 minutes earlier - so, check all of your departure and arrival times between the original ticket and the modified ticket.

Have fun on your trip!

Ah, okay...I'm an idiot! Upon further inspection, my ride on the Capitol Limited is earlier on departure and 30 minutes later on arrival. So next question is, are the tickets I got from the station on ticket stock (I believe that's the term that is used) still good? Or should I bring those AND bring the eTicket?

Agggh, first time Amtrak rider. I have so much anxiety! Afraid I'm going to forget something, or not get on a train, or not be able to sleep in coach. lol A mess I am! :)

Don't be anxious.... it will be just fine.

The one thing to remember is that your reservation is linked to the reservation number.

As long as those numbers are the same, it's all good.

The e-ticket or hard ticket will be good.

There's also an app for iPhone, iPad, and Android that allow you to have a *real* e-ticket, ie. no paper.

It's easy to set up an account on Amtrak.com and you'll be able to see your reservation as it stands currently for piece of mind.

Also, if you plan on traveling by train in the future - you just might, one trip and I was hooked! - go to Amtrak Guest Rewards and sign up.

It's free and you get points for traveling, you can also get them for shopping through the shopping portal too - great way to earn free rides.

Feel free to ask away and, btw, welcome to the forum.

There's a wealth of information here and someone will have an answer (or two) to any question you might have.

:)

The ticket stock "ticket" and an e-ticket you print at home are both e-tickets (or, more accurately, boarding documents). The important items on each are the reservation number and the bar code. Both link to your reservation that is held on the Amtrak computer system. When changes occur, either made by Amtrak or by you, the reservation in the system changes, but the reservation number and bar code does not. Either the ticket stock e-ticket or an e-ticket you print at home link to the now changed reservation and will work just fine even if printed before the changes were made.

You can certainly print a new e-ticket at home or have one printed at the station if you wish. It could be helpful if you have to show a ticket to access the platform prior to departure. However, it is not required.
