I had another good night sleep. Louis got some sleep as well. I had 5 to 6 hours of sleep which is good for me. When it came time for breakfast, I walked to the cafe car two cars away. We had pound cake with milk. We also had lunch on the train. We had hot dogs which were huge.

We got to NY Penn Station on time. When we got off the train, the first thing we did was fill up our Metrocards, then picked up our luggage. After we picked up our luggage we found the elevator to the street to get the bus to our hotel.

We stayed at LaQuinta Inn on Queens blvd. We originally had a hotel booked in Manhattan but found a cheaper rate in Queens which made a huge difference. We checked into our hotel. We were hungry & it was late we decided to go next door to McDonalds. After we ate, we walked to CVS down the block to get me distilled water for my cpap machine. At first we couldn't find it so we had to ask the clerk about it. He found it, thank goodness.

When we got back to the hotel, I took a shower. After I took a shower, I got online. We also watched our NBC shows & Jimmy Fallon's Monologue.

Stay tuned for what happened when we surprised our best friend the next day.

Pound cake with milk sounds like a delicious breakfast! :)

I'm looking forward to reading about your best friend's reaction to your visit. :)

An area I know well. Just a few blocks from the Sunnyside Yards where the LSL goes for service and turn. My trade is building a new training center a few blocks South of QB on 34th Street, I'll probably be teaching a couple of nights a week right over there in the fall. Crazy congested, but everything is around if you know where to look. Also a White Castle and then a Wendy's along that stretch.

It wasnt too congested when we went except getting over the bridge in the mornings.

Worked on the construction of a new building (5 years ago) at the end of the Thompson Ave Bridge (the one over the rail yard before the 59tth St bridge approach). I was stationed on a high floor prefabbing patch panels and other network gear. Set my tables up to have a great view of the Sunnyside Yards, watching train movements (NJT + AMTK) all day. LIRR would zip through, and I also got to see the subway, and the portal where endless streams of material from the tunneling for East Side Access came out of the ground. A little piece of rail heaven.
