The depot, scheduled to open Dec. 13 (thats 12-13-14, for you Lotto folks), will house under its three-story dome a handful of original concepts by intrepid Orange County food entrepreneurs.

Among them is Roland Foss, a former Taco Bell marketing guy who owns Mission Market. His grab-and-go convenience store, which has a location in Fullerton, plans to accept bitcoin. It likely will be the only food tenant open when ARTIC debuts next month.

Others arent expected to come aboard until early next year, including organic coffeehouse The Lost Bean, whose flagship cafe is in Tustin. Owner Bodie Rasmussen, who has been reluctant to expand just anywhere over the years, said he jumped at the chance to open at ARTIC because hes a supporter of public transportation, having lived in Europe.

Like others, he also sees the potential: ARTIC is expected to serve about 10,000 commuters a day.

Leonard Chan, who has several restaurants in various developing stages across O.C. and Los Angeles, is opening three eateries and a barbershop at ARTIC. His most notable venues are Iron Press in Costa Mesa and the Anaheim Packing House. At ARTIC, he plans to open R.A.D. a nano-brewery serving comfort food; Hive Bar, an approachable speakeasy focusing on hand-crafted cocktails and rare beers; and SILO, a healthy food and poke bowl concept.

Linh Nguyen, owner of Ritters in Santa Ana and Huntington Beach, is bringing his steam kettle cooking concept to ARTICs second level, as well as The Oyster Bar.
Anaheim's been trying to become the center for Orange County micro-brewing and it looks like it's starting to pay off for them.

Cool. Any other places to soak in the suds at or near a station? The one I can think of is Sierra Nevada's Torpedo Room in Berkeley. That's a short two blocks.

In Albuquerque there's the Chama Brewing Microbar a block or so from the train station. It's tiny though (maybe room for 8 patrons?) and only sells 1) beer and 2) a limited selection of potato chips. Mrs. Ispolkom did get a glass of tap water (in a beer glass, of course), but they didn't have ice.

Well, there's http://www.flossmoorstation.com a brewery & restaurant in Flossmoor in the former Illinois Central station next to the present Metra Electric station. Flossmoor is one stop south of the Amtrak/Metra stop at Homewood.

And there's http://www.twobrothersbrewing.com/roundhouse/ this brewpub in the former CB&Q roundhouse in Aurora next to the Aurora Metra station. Metra-BNSF terminates there, and Amtrak and freight trains go past on an embankment. It used to be Walter Payton's Roundhouse.

Just stumbled across this looking for an old post. We recently managed a trip to OC and LA using only Amtrak California buses/trains, public transportation, and foot. Around Anaheim and Buena Park was convenient because we used Anaheim Regional Transportation (formerly Anaheim Resort Transportation) that uses a bus system that operates with a combination of fixed routes at certain times, and an on-demand system where rides are requested through a portable device app. The general idea is that the rides can be linked together to maximize the use of resources, and that they have specific points they can use, but only those points - usually marked bus stops. However, we had five rides, and other than the first one from ARTIC to Buena Park (picked up an employee and then a family going to Disneyland) we were the only passengers. It might not have been as convenient as a taxi or Uber/Lyft, but all we needed was a $6 day-pass per passenger. I heard Uber/Lyft surge pricing gets ridiculous around the time when people start leaving Disneyland.

Anaheim has a ton of that now around the Anaheim Packing District, most notably Modern Times, but also Monkish Brewing and Unsung Brewing.
