Right-- so the email says quadruple points for trips taken on National Train Day (May 9th).. does anyone know if that applies to any trip, anywhere... and if so, does the 100 point rule apply?

For instance:

NYP-PHL is 45 each way low bucket-- thus you get 100 AGR points per stub. But since we get quadruple points, do we then get 400 or 800 points?

And what about point runs... surely there is some way to turn a 400 point run into a 1600 point run this way...

I'd so have to think so.

If I understand the question, you'd get 400 (100x4). Not sure of the source of the '800' guess. :p

There's a new wrinkle, mentioned in today's 'official' email to members announcing the promotion: Only two segments per day qualify for the promo. Together with the 4-per-day rule, this means that trips on NTD get:
  1. 400
  2. 400
  3. 100
  4. 100
  5. 0
  6. 0
  7. etc.
So I originally thought there was some way to turn a 400 point run into a 1600 point run this way...

But now it is merely possible to turn a 400 point run into a 1000 (400+400+100+100) point run this way...

:(

Still, it's better than a sharp stick in the eye. But only as much better as a dull thumb in the eye. :p

a ticket from DC to Rockville costs about 5 bucks (with student advantage). Im wondering if its worth it to take this trip for 400 points? Sounds like that might be a good deal.

You would have to do Rockville to DC if you wanted to do a roundtip. At that price it is about half the cost of buying them outright and you get "rail points" too.

I might just do it then. I live near Rockville and it would be easy to do. Im wondering though if you actually have to ride the train to get all the points? or if you simply get the points when you buy the ticket?

The ticket has to be picked up by the conductor, turned in, and processed by Amtrak .

ok thanks. i might do it, might not. I bet people will think im strange for going such a short distance!
