As of 12am on the 26th Amtrak has not released an updated schedule for the NEC. IINM the work at NYP was to wrap up Labor Day weekend. At which point I would have thought a schedule change would come out. But as ThirdRail has mentioned there is serious track work going on this year. Which I'll guess is scheduled to wrap up in October, well in advance of the Holiday season.

Considering that neither the Lake Shore Ltd nor Cardinal have updated PDF timetables available for post-Labor Day, I'm not surprised that updated NEC timetables are not available, either..

The PDF timetables are only good for collectors item these days. The real timetable can be found only by trying to book a train, and indeed attempting to book a train from say New York to Albany gives a list of trains from NYP to ALB, with no sign of NYG anywhere. So it is safe to assume that it is pretty likely that the diversions to NYG end by the 5th of Sept. The list includes the Lake Shore Limited.

Incidentally, the Cardinal is supposed to revert back to NYP after or sometime in October, not immediately after Labor Day. Empire Service is returning to NYP on the 5th based on attempted bookings on the route.

Hopefully at some point they will post new PDFs, but I would not depend on that to occur to plan my trips.

While the work on the Empire Connection may be wrapping up and the Empire Service and associated trains may be returning to normal next week, the NEC as a whole has many trackwork projects going on. Schedules were said to be reverting back to normal around mid-November. That leaves a large window to keep projects going before the cold weather arrives and the holiday travel season is upon us.

According to the booking page, the Cardinal returns to NYP on November 14th.

Looking at Amtrak's status map it looks like 48 is heading towards NYP even though the rest of Empire service is still going to and from NYG. I'm guessing 48 will have the honor of being the first train post construction. I assume that Empire service will return to NYP tomorrow?

48(2), 64(3), & 68(3) all should be headed for NYP tonight.
