IDOT has released a new feasibility study on potential Amtrak service between Chicago and Peoria IL utilizing the old CRI&P route. Highlights:
-5 round trips a day
-90mph top speed
-station stops at Joliet, Morris, Ottawa, Utica, Peru-LaSalle
-Ridership from 280-820 people per day
-31,000 people surveyed, ~83% likely to ride, 11% somewhat likely
-price tag of 2.5 billion

It will be interesting to see where the La Salle/Peru stop would be. The station is still there but is a lawn and garden store now. Our family used to ride the Peoria Rocket in the 60's returning from family visits to and from RVR. My great uncle was a conductor on the Rocket.
