New Hope, PA to NYC in the '60s

In the 1960s, my grandfather and his family lived in New Hope, PA, and I've heard that he would "take the train to New York" for work. Just wondering if people know what route(s) and train(s) he might have taken back then. This would have been 1967 and earlier as I understand it. Appreciate any info.

New Hope is not all that far from the West Trenton, NJ station. At that time the Reading Company ran a pair of rush hour trains from the Reading Terminal to Penn Station Newark (change there for New York Penn), Prior to 4/30/1967, the pair of trains ran between Reading Terminal, and the CNJ Jersey City, NJ Station (ferry connections to Manhattan).

I pulled out the October 1944 Guide and there were Pennsy trains on the Belvidere branch stopping in Lambertville, across a bridge from New Hope. New Hope also was served by the Reading but that was oriented toward Philadelphia.

Having grown up with so much service, he probably stuck with rail travel, made adjustments as the network crumbled, and would have ended up with the West Trenton alternative.

That would have been the Wall Street and the Crusader, at one time fancier trains but by this time were run with a set of RDC's including one set up with a snack bar. One of my regrets is that I didn't ride it when I had the opportunity. I still have a schedule but unfortunately it is currently in storage along with all my train related stuff due to our move from Maine.
