I'm not a true expert on trains but I've been a lifelong train buff. Amtrak journeys I've taken (besides countless trips along the NE Corridor) include the Southern Crescent (in the early 80s when I believe Southern Railway still was involved with it), the Lake Shore Limited (when it was still departing from Grand Central Terminal), the Capital Limited, the California Zephyr, the Coast Starline (but ony from Los Angeles to San Jose), the Cardinal (lousy service!), train from Chicago to St Louis, and others. Longest train ride I ever took was the Indian-Pacific (all across Australia, from Sydney to Perth). I'll be takng the Floridian from Chicago to DC this spring. Currently retired but have worked in politics and music and radio.
