New train traveler anxiety

Ok, I'm new to Amtrak. I'm hoping to make a trip probably summer or early fall of 2015. I'm looking to go either to Chicago or possibly down into Texas. What can I expect and what should I take with me as a first time rider? I can say it will b train one way and greyhound the other way. I would b boarding the train in Harrisburg, pa cause its closest to where I live.

Thanks. I'll check them out. I'm still planning my trip. As a matter of fact it also depends if I can get the vacation time. We are short on drivers at work again.
