Day 1
Much as I like the VIA Candian, catching the Maple Leaf at 7:15 am to connect to it westbound is kind of brutal. I like leaving at 3:40 pm on the Lake Shore a lot better.
Spent the morning packing up (didn't have to do it the night before), checked out 11 and caught a cab over to Moyinhan.
I had like four hours before the train, but the Metropolitan Lounge is not a bad place to just hang out. Been out and about all over the city for a week, so it's actually a nice break.
Moynihan's Food Court is finally in full swing after not really having had much (or anything at all) for a number of years. In any case, there is now a Pastrami Queen location in Moyinhan. Pastrami Queen is acknowledged to have some of the better pastrami in the city, up with Katz's. So, while the Metropolitan Lounge has good (and free) food options, I decided I couldn't leave town without another pastrami on rye. Took it back up to Lounge to eat it, though.
They called the train and, consistent with my experience at Moynihan, it wasn't before the regular call in the lounge. Oh well.
49 was spotted on Track 8, so roomette 2 wasn't on the platform side. So did not have the opportunity to use the Windex Wipes I brought along.
We pulled out right on time, when we got out in open along the Hudson, I wasn't getting the usual opaque grime glare from the afternoon sun. I almost didn't dare think it, but was the window actually...clean?
It seemed like it was.
Yes. It was.
At Albany, 449 across the platform was normally dull with grime, but 49 sparkled. I actually ran my hand across the side of the diner and it came away clean, no greasy road grime.
Looks like the wash rack at Sunnyside just may be back in service.
