It was mentioned in at least two threads that transfers from Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) to Amtrak Guest Rewards (AGR) yielded 5,000 bonus points for every 20,000 transferred:

I realize that this bonus was unofficial, but still had high hopes. Last week, I called up SPG, spoke to a very friendly representative, and requested a transfer of 20,000 points to AGR. To my surprise, he mentioned that "for every 20,000 points you transfer, you will receive a bonus of 5,000 points." I was quite happy to receive verbal confirmation of the bonus.

Unfortunately, this week only 20,000 points showed up in my AGR account. I just called up SPG and spoke to a somewhat less friendly representative, who said that "you are not entitled to the 5,000 bonus for transfers to Amtrak, and there is no bonus mentioned in the notes from your phone conversation last week."

I then asked to speak to a supervisor, who was quite forceful and borderline rude. She said that "we never had a bonus for transfers to Amtrak, and the notes from last week specifically state that the representative told you that you will NOT be receiving a bonus." (Not true!) When I mentioned that several of my friends received the bonus a few months ago, she replied "that's impossible. Our system was never set up to issue bonus points for transfers to Amtrak. It must have been some special promotion at Amtrak's end." (Again, not true!)

So, to make a long story short, it appears that the bonus for SPG to AGR transfers is no longer with us. :(

If folks keep pointing this out to SPG, I can guarantee that it will no longer be with us....

That may be what has already happened. It's possible that someone at SPG saw a posting here or elsewhere that said they were getting the 5k bonus into AGR, and SPG pulled the plug.

That's pretty unlikely. This information has been over at Flyertalk for years, and those boards have official representation from Starwood.

It's people actively bringing things like this up that always causes problems.
