So I've been taking the Keystone irregularly for the past couple of years, and whenever I bought a ticket from the machine or at the ticket office, it said it's valid for a year. IN the "not valid before/after" there would be today's date and then the date next year. Today was the first time I rode since e-ticketing started, and I was quite astonished when I saw that, even though it is an unreserved coach seat, it still has the day and time on it. I used to sometimes buy a ticket in advance and not use it and have it for the future. Does this mean it's impossible to do any more, even on unreserved trains?

Here's how it looked like:

Unreserved tickets are still valid for the usual period, except for any days or times when the fare isn't valid (e.g. peak/offpeak, or on Thanksgiving for Surfliners, etc.). The way unreserved tickets are represented in the new eTicketing world is something that Amtrak is tweaking and refining, but nothing has changed at the policy level.

OP, you may want to hide some personally identifying details in your ticket image for security reasons.

So, they haven't figured out how to show a "valid until" date on an unreserved e-ticket boarding document? Let's form a top-level committee and hire a consultant to work on it.

I don't seem to be able to edit my post so if you could maybe delete this image for me I'd appreciate that.

Thanks for the response. So despite the fact that there is an actual set date on the ticket I should still be able to just get on the train whenever assuming the fare is the same (meaning follow peak/offpeak stuff) as per usual. Hopefully I won't ever have any issues with the conductors!

Yes, assuming that you are boarding an unreserved train. Which they Keystone is, provided you are not traveling beyond Philadelphia (i.e. towards New York).
