After reading others experiences in here about dealing with clueless phone reps, errors, problems and hassles, yesterday I held my breath (not too long) when I called. I only had a 3-minute wait.
I got an energetic sounding young lady who sounded like she was interested in her job.
I previously had made a 2-zone 30,000 award reservation for October - CHI-SAC-TAC. I expected to
be told I would have to cancel this rezzie - 30,000 put back in my account while another 30,000 would
be taken out for the new one. No problem - she just modified the one I had.
Orignally I couldn't see paying the cost of traveling CHI-NOL to take the Slidell loop. But fortune appeared requiring me to go to Mobile AL while back there. So I jumped at the chance. It required telling her where SDL was since she was thinking of stops on my first routing.
End result: 30,000 points for a Bedroom for each segment SDL-WAS-CHI-SAC-CMO for 5 nights. CMO?!!! More lessons for her on Chemult, OR. It is the furthest north on the CS I could get. The next stop is Eugene, which routes you on the EB-Cascades from CHI. When asked, she went segment by segment to assign my Bedroom number preference.
Since I start this trip flying first-class SEA-MSP on Alaska Air to get rid of air miles (I missed the window to transfer 125,00 air miles to Amtrak which would have given me 250,000 award points--darn), I will leave my car at Tacoma's Amtrak depot, catch a short Cascade jaunt to TUK - the SEATAC airport point .
This required a coach ticket CMO-TAC (12 hours) discounted at $36. In addition, I'll get other travel
points while back there: MSP-MKE, MKE-GRR, GRR-CHI-NOL, NOL-SDL.
She carefully read back my new routing to ensure it was correct. I read in here one afterwards should
call the regular 880 number and ask them to email a copy to ensure you have your plans confirmed.
When asked, she cheerfully fired off my email request.
Saving the best for the last: With discount my trip would have cost $3,042 = .1014 cents!
* She told me their operation is located near Winnipeg.
