Arrived at Orlando's currently under refurbishment Amtrak Station this afternoon about 2 hours late at around 3:00 pm. Have to say the original? seating still in place is wonderful in design and use.

We had the option of taking the Sunrail to the end of the line then Lynx bus the rest of the way to Orlando Airport to pick up a rental car. The second option was a bus direct from the medical centre next to the station to the airport. We chose the second option as Sunrail isn't very frequent in the middle of the day and it would entail carrying our luggage from Sunrail to the bus stop which wasn't too well defined by Lynx or google.

This is how it went. Walking from the Amtrak Station main door go right, 1st left, to the end right to the end and left up to Orange. The bus stop with a cover and seats is just a few yards on the right. We had a case and a bag each, are no longer kids but able to walk, and took maximum 10 minutes.

The #11 bus goes right into the Airport Level 1 Terminal for ground transport from this bus stop, no changes to make. The buses are modern, efficient and at 15:52 pm were not busy, it took 40 minutes and cost $2 each.

There was adequate room for baggage but that may be different if the bus were full.

This bus runs every hour at 52 minutes past the hour.

Everything about this transfer from Amtrak to airport worked for us, and at a bargain price too.

Hope this helps others

Thanks for posting. I might be in this situation in a few months from now. There is a Hertz rental site at the Orlando train station. Can I conclude you did not use Hertz for the reason to go to the airport instead?

Two reasons for us to collect a car from the airport. We fly out of Orlando next week on our way back to London so just convenient to return the car there. The more important reason was that this was a journey around America by public transport (as far as humanly possible) from arriving at Chicago O'Hare to leaving from Orlando, by renting at Amtrak Orlando we wouldn't have completed the circle of airport to airport.

It's also possible that it may be less money by renting at the airport, have never seen such competition as the number of rental desks as at Orlando, but that wasn't one of our criteria. The last may be many of the 'local' rental offices appear to close at 6pm where's the airports are 24 hours.
