I'm going to NYC for a trip that runs from Thursday to Saturday. Will I have any issue finding a parking spot at the Route 128 MBTA station?

I don't think that would be an issue. There's a separate part of the garage with a different entrance solely for overnight (Amtrak) parking.
Triley, where is this "different entrance" ? I know the two regular gated entrances from the street and there is an Amtrak signed area on level 2 reachable from those entrances.

I have parked at various times of the day and always found a spot to park in one the 2500+ spaces. You take a ticket at the entrance gate which you should keep with you. Upon returning, you pay at the payment machines on the upper level in the station before entering the garage. The lines move fast. You use the paid ticket to exit at the garage gate. Overnight is $14.

Just joined. I think this was recently discussed but I can’t find the thread. I’m going from RTE ( Rt128 in Weston ,MA ) to NYP on Acela then on to New Orleans on the Crescent. First time on the Crescent. I’ll have a roomette I got with Guest Rewards points. Question about parking at RTE as it will be my first time using that station. I plan to park there for 7 days. I understand there is a dedicated long term parking area? Can I use my EZ Pass transponder to pay? If so, how does that work? Appreciate any advice about this station. Looking forward to my latest adventure.

See the replies in the 7 year old thread above.

MODERATOR NOTE: The March 2023 post was merged into the existing older thread, with its last post 3 years ago. Hopefully the information is still accurate.
@Acela150 may have more recent information he is willing to share. :)

Unfortunately I don’t have more current info. I don’t make it up to Route 128 as much as I used to these days.

Just to avoid future confusion, RTE is in Westwood, not Weston. (Weston is also on Rt 128, at the interchange with the Mass Pike, aka the I-90/I-95 interchange.) I took the NEC from BOS to NYP to catch the Crescent to Atlanta in Oct 2019 and back. This was shortly before the new Moynihan waiting area at Penn Station opened. Since you're in a sleeper, you have access to the new first class lounge, which I've heard is a huge upgrade from the old dank, claustrophobic cavern that was the old NYP Acela lounge. Be sure to go there to wait for your connection.

I haven't actually boarded a train at RTE in many years, so I don't know the current parking situation. It is a very busy MBTA commuter stop, s o parking may be hard to come by. I would recommend getting dropped off it at all possible, or get there really early in case you need to vulture a parking space.

I would go to RTE on a weekday if that's convenient to see the present situation before precluding the convenience of driving yourself to the station at a decent hour.

From my experience (Metra in the Chicago suburbs), commuter station parking isn't empty but it isn't pre-covid full either. I see lots of stations with the main lot full-ish but with a few open spots, and the overflow parking empty.

I parked in the RTE last November, just after Thanksgiving. I took the NER to NYC, and the Silver Meteor to Ft Lauderdale for a two week cruise.
The garage was in a bit of a state of flux as they were refurbing it. Parts were fenced off. You basically drove in and found somewhere (I ended up on the 2nd floor) There is no segregation of day parking or long term. There are large signs telling you to use the PayByPhone app. I spoke with the guy in the Amtrak window, and he said to do that, or they survey the lot daily and will send you a bill using your plate info. The PBP rate is $1 cheaper, so do that if you can.

My problem was the PBP app would only let me pay for 5 days at a time, and not extend until you completed that time. Since I was out of country and on/off internet access, this was a problem. I sent them an email complaining, and I think they actually changed something. As I was able extend time easier in the later week. In the end I only missed one day, They sent me a bill in January for that one day. I misplaced it and ended up recently paying it with an overdue charge.

So if you are out for more that 5 days, keep track of the last day paid, and set yourself a reminder to check in that day or the next to extend.

Thanks. I will get the ap.

Parked in RTE 11/23 returning Sunday.
They have separated the lower from upper decks. Enter from University Ave to the uppers. Using PayByPhone and hitting the website every 5 days.
Is there a difference between upper and lower decks i.e. is one short term and one long term? I haven't been there since I moved out of MA 10 years ago.
