Parking at the Indianapolis Station

Unfortunately, parking in Indianapolis is problematic. My husband and I left (or tried to leave -- the Cardinal got cancelled, so we had to Greyhound it to Chicago to begin our trip — yuck!) from there in December, and we stayed at the hotel that's in the old Union Station (but not connected to the current Amtrak station — yuck again!) and parking at the hotel was $25 a day! There are parking lots within varying degrees of nearness to the station, but they're all expensive. Here's a website that's helpful with phone numbers for them, though.
If you're spending the night at a motel before you leave, you might call them and see if you can leave your car there and take a taxi to the station.

I am very familiar with the parking situation at IND. There really isn't any inexpensive long term parking and Amtrak has none available at all.. You'd be better to find a hotel out of town and taxi it into the station. In fact, if your driving from out of town to IND, you'd almost be better off to drive some where closer to CHI and go from there.

The closest long term parking is the Pan-Am Plaza underground lot. Long term rates are $18/day I think. I like the taxi idea someone had. Also, the monthly rate for that garage is something like $140/month. I thought about buying a monthly pass if I ever take a long trip.

Any new information on parking in Indy? My wife and I are taking our first Amtrak trip (10 days round trip from Indy to Glacier) in June. Got a good rate round-trip from Indianapolis, but was subsequently horrified to see parking might be over $20 a day there. Anyone got any suggestions for anything cheaper?

My suggestion would be to have a friend take you to the station (assuming you live in Indy).
