It's extremely odd (ie convenient for the ruling Conservative party) that these arrests should come on the day that the Canadian parliament was debating whether to renew post-9/11 anti terrorism measures (such as arrest without warrant), especially given there appears to have been only a general threat.
Given the recent history of "terrorist plots" created by the FBI (where they "thwarted" plots for which they had provided all the information, materials, and equipment), it does indeed seem extremely suspicious. Given that Harper's been censured for lying to Parliament, it does make it kind of hard to trust his government.

The DailyMail in the UK actually likens the US-Canadian cooperation to the collaborative effort featured in the movie Argo.

Sheesh.

It could have just as easily been your church, your mall, your supermarket, your highway bridge, etc...
I wasn't aware that the TSA and the Amtrak Police were responsible for protecting all those too, but hay, I'll add such in since you say so.
And I wasn't aware that any US Governmental Agencies had any juristiction in CANADA, but hay...

I think we all know that Amtrak and VIA have been targets in the past, and this is one that apparently came close to fruition. The good news is that it didn't happen, and it will probably push intentions away from the railways for the foreseeable future since there will be new scrutiny. The downside is that those of us that ride Amtrak will probably have to deal with additional security measures.

Even though this incident would not have been prevented by screening passengers.
