While I sympathize with what happened, I would be horrified if someone mentioned the status of my menstrual cycle on an online forum. That has absolutely no bearing on the situation and really wasn't necessary.
Yeah I was wondering when someone was going to point this out. Seriously?! I am not sure how that has any bearing on the situation at all, and frankly the underlying assumption (that women are somehow impaired when menstruating) is offensive.
As a woman, I agree.

the post says this is a 5 YEAR OLD story ... who cares at this point.
No, I think that this is a recent story, that was originally posted to a 5 year old thread and split out.
It is a new story. It was just posted yesterday.
Correct, I split it from a 2008 thread that had the last post in 2009. The first post in this thread was added by the guest to the 5 year old thread recently. I split this most recent post (only) from that thread, and closed the 5 year old thread.

It's the men they're with who are impaired! :p

As a man, I agree with you!

I have Great news ,,,, CES touted at 1 TB USB sticks.... now your backup is on your Key ring ......

Me i have 2 servers ( one is outta state ) and 3 backups (2 are off Site . And are rotated on a monthly basis .

Key ring flash drives are awesome. I have one hooked through the zipper on the inside of my purse. I remember when those silly things only held about 3M and cost $40.

Heck, I remember when I had to do backups using a zip drive. :p

I still have my zip drive. Dang, should have taken it to the electronics recycling I went to recently. Ah, well, maybe I'll remember to take it the next time.

And I'm from the days of floppies. Heck I'm from the days way before personal computers. Feeling the aches and pains thinking about it. :D

I feel them whenever I get up to GO to the computer! That's why I have an iPad so I don't even have to get out of bed! :giggle:
I used to have my netbook on the bed next to me (after my husband passed away). Now I have my iPod on the nightstand within easy reach. If it wasn't for the kitties & work, I might not get out of bed till late morning myself (I'm an early to bed, early to rise person).

The first usb drive I saw was 256kB and cost $400.

the post says this is a 5 YEAR OLD story ... who cares at this point. Sorry ....
This story is not from the 5 year old thread, that is why it was removed from there. It is new as others have said. We are here to support each other, so we all care. If there is a question or a statement, we are here to give support and suggestions.

The first external hard drive I had (on my company-supplied IBM PC) was 10 megabytes capacity, about the size of a small breadbox, and cost $4000.

And the first computer I worked on (as a summer govt employee at the Census Bureau) was a Univac 1105 kept in a room so cold that you had to bring a jacket to work even when it was 90 degrees outside (near Washington, D.C.)

Who else wants to play "computer geezer"?

You may be a "geezer" if you remember all computers being referred to by the general public as "IBM machines" no matter the brand. Kinda like calling all tissues "Kleenex".

I'll join the crowd!
The first computer I had was a Commodore 64 and I learned BASIC and COBOL in college! (Are BASIC and COBOL still known? )
Didn't have my own computer for a while, but it was considered state of the art when my elementary school classroom got a Commodore PET. This was at a time when the Apple II had been available for some time, but where the PET was still the computer of choice for some applications.

I got a present from my uncle of a Sharp pocket computer. It had 4K of memory, could be programmed in BASIC (full QWERTY keyboard), and operated off of two CR2032 batteries. I pretty much used it only as a scientific calculator. It was considerably more powerful than the cheapie solar calculators that I used as a backup. I remember it could do factorials, and overflow was at maybe 67! . When I did that, I could actually hear a whining noise coming from the circuits and saw the display dim while it was cranking out the result.

The first computer I remember is the Apple II. I used to play "Oregon Trail" on it during 5th grade computer class.

I also learned BASIC and COBOL in college too. BASIC came in very handy for me: a friend had a rudimentary football game that was written in BASIC, and I went in and changed it so that whenever anyone chose to be the Washington State University Cougars, they would get 600 points for a touchdown, 300 points for a field goal, 200 points for a safety, and 100 points for an extra point. Needless to say, WSU never lost a game!

My first computer was an IBM PC (with no hard drive). I was well out of college when I got it. I learned Fortran IV in college on main frames. One of my first summer jobs was key punching. My first hand held/battery operated calculator in college was a Bowmar and it cost $60 (and the functions were pretty limited).

Our first computer was the PC Jr.Dave, I think COBOL is still used.
My first computer was also a PCjr. However, I first used computers at college: an IBM360 main frame programming in FORTRAN with punch card input. DO LOOP anyone? And if you messed-up your JCL cards, you were toast.
