From Amtrak's website:

Capitol Limited Eastbound Train 30: Possible Service Disruption between Pittsburgh and Washington
Effective Sundays through Thursdays Only - Beginning July 24, 2011

On Sundays through Thursdays only, starting July 24, 2011 and continuing for approximately 13 months... ...that may affect eastbound Capitol Limited service.
So that would be the end of August... Does anybody know how the tunnel work is going? I heard there was a bustitution one day a couple of weeks ago because excess rain caused problems at the work site, and it got me wondering how things are going.

Thanks! :hi:

Well, I'll be darned. They said about the end of August, 2012. So I checked today, and the service disruption notice is history!

The notice may have been on a timer, and was set to automatically expire.

They certainly weren't completely finished with the project, and the emergency tunnel work that required train 30 to be pushed later for a few weeks in August forced them to stop work on the other part until they got that issue fixed, so CSX is probably behind schedule.

If and when CSX finishes its work, Amtrak plans to let 30 leave Chicago later - at approximately 7:30 pm, while letting 48 leave Chicago earlier - at approximately 6:00 pm. Let's wait and see what happens during the next timetable update in October/November - if the aforementioned change is implemented, then it means that CSX has finished its work by that time. If not, then it means that CSX isn't done.
