The good Mr. chuljin is pretty far from a railfan: He's traveled a lifetime total of three segments: a paid one, LAX to SAN a few years ago (can you believe he-who-could-care-less-about trains [though I'm working on it] took his first Amtrak trip two years before I took mine? :p ), and two award ones ('paid' from my account), GDL-SBA and back a couple months ago.

Despite the apathy :p , I convinced him to go LAX-SAN and back at the end of this month, to visit friends of ours. It will again be an award trip out of my account, since doing so is a little cheaper (the way I calculate it, anyways).

Just in case, I referred him to AGR, and so now he has a member number.

In my experience with award tickets, the member number is printed on the ticket, and a token 0 points is posted on the usual schedule. So now that he has a member number, it will be on his ticket, and after the usual week or so, token 0 points will post to our respective accounts.

So the question becomes: does reward travel count as 'travel' for the purposes of the referral bonus? I.e. is each of us likely to get the 500 points?

Enroll in Amtrak Guest Rewards by March 31, 2009, and travel within 90 days, and we will award you a 500 point bonus to jump-start your new account! (my emphasis)
Does anyone have experience with a similar situation? Not that 500 points is a lot, the way I manage to roll in them :p (100,000 is just around the corner [though 40,000 of those are transfers in from CO]), but it would be a nice little bonus! :)

Thanks!

Chris
