Your last statement is correct Naomee, the points don't show up in your account until after you take the trip. When the conductor takes the tickets from you during the journey, he/she turns them into a central collection point. Once the tickets barcode is scanned at that central point, the info is sent to Guest Rewards and the points will post to your account. Typically that happens within two weeks of your trip, but hold onto your ticket stubs just in case. You'll need them to prove you took the trip if something goes wrong.
Now if you used the AGR credit card to buy the tickets, the points for buying the tickets will show up after your next billing cycle. And then you'll still have the points from the actual travel coming after the trip.

Wait a minute...I just redeemed a two-zone roomette (nice to see the ticket say $0.00!), but yet AFTER my travel, I'll still get my usual two-points-per dollar points???
Well technically yes, that is true. You'll get your usual 2 points per dollar spent. Since you spent nothing, 2 X 0 = 0 points, which won't do much to increase your balance.
I'm not trying to make fun of you, but I'm not sure how you went from someone buying tickets using a AGR credit card getting points for the purchase of tickets, as well points when those tickets are actually used, to getting points for award tickets. At no point in this topic were we talking about free tickets.
