Diesel/kerosene/jet fuel/rocket propellant 1 are all pretty much the same thing- here's a wikipedia article:

Jet fuel is not diesel fuel. Diesel fuel would not burn well in a jet engine. Diesel and kerosene are totally different. Diesel basically home heating oil- a much heavier distillate. Also, diesel fumes are not particularly flammable.

Finally, my knowledge on what went wrong with the FL-9 comes from someone who actually worked on the things.
