Him being up there isn't a possibility anyways, especially if I'm not up there with him. With my son, you need to basically throw away the idea that children with autism like to play alone and aren't social. This boy won't leave my lap or my side. Which is the main reason I mentioned in a previous post him sleeping with me in one of the chairs. Isn't the comfiest of possibilities, but my son cuddled up with me more than makes up for it. One day he won't want to do that anymore and I'll be lost!
I'd still try having the attendant put down the lower bed, odds are that you can both squeeze in there and be more comfortable than sleeping in the seats. Then just send dad up to the other bunk.
Sounds good to me!
Which sounds good to you, pulling down the lower bed or sending dad to the other bunk? ;)
:p hehe!

Amy:

DH and I are considering traveling with our 3 year old from NC to Orlando this month via Amtrak. NEVER been on a train before. Wondering if you were able to phone in and acquire a Roomette for 2 adults and 1 child.

IMHO, it is tight to fit two persons into a roomette, let alone a third, even a small child. The roomette is REALLY small, like two phone booths (OK, I date myself there). Even if Amtrak allowed it, it would be very tight, with the extremely narrow beds.

And yet many people do it.

I don't disagree that it is a bit snug, but with a small child most people seem just fine. I wouldn't recommend that someone try it with any child over 4 though, as it would get very uncomfortable.

We travelled with 3 years old in the roommette and that was fine. It is possible to do I believe until 5-6 years old if you can sleep in one bed. In the daytime it's fine to fit 3 people.

We just did a trip (daytime only) and we could even fit 4 people (2 small kids) into bedroom (not roommette). Amtrak wouldn't book 4 people into bedroom, but one is infant and doesn't need a ticket. So I booked 3 people and didn't tell anything about infant. Conductor on the train didn't even tell anything. We had a great trip, kids could sleep and we had enough space in the bedroom.
