Hello all!! So I just reserved a roomette on the LSL limited for a trip in mid-June. I booked online and I'm traveling westbound to Buffalo from NYP. My question is, how can i assure myself a roomette facing the Hudson valley? I guess that would be the left side of the train since I'm traveling westbound. i would really like to experience all the lovely views of the Hudson. Should I call Amtrak or just wait until the day of the trip and ask an Amtrak attendant to accomadate my request (If I'm facing the "wrong" side"). Things would be so simple if u could select online!

The problem is, you never know which side of the car will face which direction. Until you board the train, there is no real way to tell. Sleeper cars can have either end going forward so it is the luck of the draw.

There is no way to guarantee that you will have the "correct" view, because the sleepers can be oriented either way (with bedrooms at the front of the car or bedrooms at the back). So while selecting online would be AWESOME, that feature wouldn't help you here.

Oh....ok....R the room attendants(conductors) open to that sort of request at boarding time??

If there happens to be an open room on the left side, the attendant may allow you to sit there while traveling along the Hudson. If the room is empty (unreserved), all the way to Buffalo, the SCA should be OK with a roomette swap.

Enjoy your trip!

Mike

Best way is to go to the lounge car during the ride through the valley. That way you can view BOTH sides.
For one thing, the LSL has a single level lounge car, not a Superliner Sightseer. The 2nd thing is that most of the way, since you are right on the shore of the Hudson River, "the other side" is a hillside!

Go eat dinner in the diner. Nothing could be finer, and you can request a Hudson side table.....

And thirdly, there is no lounge car in the LSL between Albany and New York. :) The lounge car goes to Boston.

We took a trip from ROC to NYP on the LSL last February, and fortunately our bedroom window did face the Hudson. The view of the Hudson from from ALB to NYP was impressive, even by February standards. And as Traveler states, the view out the other side of the train was straight up. :D Because of the lack of foliage we were able to pick out Hotel Thayer at West Point. (Yeah, Sylvanus Thayer is a relative of mine). On the way home it was snowing like mad 'till nightime, and I don't have any idea which way our car was facing. We had pheasant under glass in the diner at 5:00 and turned in 'till we arrived back in ROC.
