I don't think so. First, the big political dela regarding government funding for passenger rail is that the Northeast Corridor gets Federal funding in exchange for Federal funding of long-distance service that serves more rural areas. Indeed, when Mr. Anderson floated the idea of messing around with the Southwest Chief, there was strong opposition to the idea from the senators from various rural states involves, most of whom are members of the current majority.

Without getting to political here, I see no evidence as of late that the majority in either house has any interest in bucking the dictates of the guy at the top...

Maybe someone could convince the billionaire that owns BNSF (through Berkshire Hathaway) to help out passenger rail.
