Hello, about select and select plus.

I understand that to reach select, you need 5000 rail points (10,000 for select plus)--you need to obtain that in one year, correct?

And then what happens? Do you remain at select or select plus for life, or do you need to accumulate another 5000 or 10,000 points each year to REMAIN at select or select plus?

Thanks

The latter. You have to earn that level each year or you return back to being just another member.

I may be completely hosed up, but here is my understanding:

You're working on obtaining status for NEXT year, but you "enter" that status as soon as you earn it.

For example - whenever I get to 5,000 rail points, I've earned status for 2010, but I become a select member right away. So, you're guaranteed status for 12 months, plus the balance of the year that you're in.

After January 2010, you start earning points for 2011 status - of course, with the 25% bonus, you get there even faster!

You were doing great right up until that last sentence. :)

The bonus points do not count towards status, only the base points count for status.

Of course the bonus points do mean that you earn that free trip much faster. :)

Better than that...14 months, plus the balance of the year that you're in...It expires at the end of February in the year after the membership year. So if you qualify now, in 2009, for 2010, your status lasts from the moment in 2009 that it's recognized, until the end of February 2011.Someone who qualifies really early in the year could conceivably have, based on that one qualification, get as many as around 25.5 months of status (all but the first few weeks of that first year, the whole of the second year, and the first two months of the third). :)
