Some of the folks within Mechanical (Formen or even regular workers) are former trainmen and/or Engineers, so it is possible to have them qualified to perform switching if need be. Many times within the engine facility moves are needed, to put together a power set, break up power, or jest move engines around the shop. Many times they will use the engines batteries to make these short moves (this system is known as the spotter).

The CF-7 that was used at the JAX Mail Dock was retired in 2000 IIRC, and has since been sold to an outfit in Georgia. As for SSB1200 556 it is still active in Sanford, although 506 is usually working as the day switcher.

According to my soources the yard jobs are to be effective this Monday. There will be two shifts a 18:00-3:00 shift and a 6:00-14:00 shift. All Miami jobs will be 5 days per week, 1 Trip to TPA, 1 Turn job to WPB, 2 days in the yard (one of each shift). There will be a total of 7 jobs in Miami with the relief day after the 18:00-3:00 shift.

Hate to bring back an old topic, but there's an update on the topic. Currently the jobs are showing as having days in the yard, but these are training sessions on how to switch and run an efficient yard, since a lot of these boys have never worked a real yard before. Amtrak officially takes over the switching July 1. Until now they've been using a CSX engine for training, but 511 was brought in from Sanford on 91 today, and will be the king of Hialeah for a while. Just thought I'd keep y'all up to date.
