The state of Washington is one of those who issue enhanced driver's licenses. When I first got mine, in 2014, I ran into unexpected problems: amongst the documents required was a birth certificate issued by the state health department rather than the one by the hospital. And in doing so discovered that my first name on the state issued birth certificate was different that on my original from the hospital. Since the one from the hospital took precedence, I had been going by the wrong name according to the health department for the first 54 years of my life!!!
. With a few more documents I was able to get a new birth certificate from the department of health with the correct spelling.
All that to say the enhanced license is all I really need as I don't care to go to any other country except Canada and the license works fine for crossing into Canada.
