On Friday, October 22, 2010, my friend Kevin and I took a trip to central Wisconsin to get some pictures of ex-Soo Line Steam Engine #1003. The trip for the engine began that morning at Milton Junction, Wisconsin and headed 6 miles to the west on WSOR (ex-Milwaukee Road) trackage to Edgerton, Wisconsin. The steam engine was brought to Edgerton for a book fair and train show they were having in town. The highlight of the day, besides viewing the steam engine of course, was meeting Chris Van Allsburg, the author of "The Polar Express". The book was written in 1985 and was one of my favorite childhood stories. And of course, it was recently turned into a movie with star Tom Hanks taking the lead role as "The Polar Express" conductor. I was told Van Allsburg doesn't make a lot of experiences so this was a real treat. I ended the day with Van Allsburg signing a copy of the book for me.
