I just noticed the headline "Silver Stars Edge Mercury 92-91", and did a double-take... first, I hadn't realized there was a sports team named the Silver Stars (they're San Antonio's women's basketball team), and second, because the score are the numbers of the northbound and southbound trains!
So, how many other sports teams and Amtrak trains share names? College teams count. The (St Louis or Arizona) Cardinals, the University of Illinois Illini, the University of Michigan Wolverines, and ... any others? (I can think of a few "partial credit" examples, like the Philadelphia Eagles and the Texas Eagle, or the Kansas City Chiefs and the Southwest Chief, but those don't quite count in my book....)
And, for extra credit, can anyone find evidence that a sports team which shares its name with a train played a game where the scores were the train numbers?
