I didn't get any responses when I first posted this, so I'm trying again.
We'll be traveling from Alton to Chicago in a couple of weeks and we're thinking of stopping off in Springfield on our return trip to visit the new Lincoln museum. We'd like to leave our luggage at the Springfield station while we visit. I know you can do this at some stations, like NYP, if you have a ticket and pay a small fee. Does anyone know if this will work in Springfield?
Alternatively, if this isn't possible, we could drive up to Springfield and just get a round trip from there to Chicago. I wonder about Springfield parking, though. The Amtrak website indicates free parking, but the details on the Texas Eagle portion of the site show only 45 parking spaces. We'd be leaving on a Friday morning, so I imagine that might be a busy time for weekend trips. Any information on the likelihood of getting a spot at the Springfield station, or other alternatives if the Amtrak lot is full?
