My mother and sister are thinking of flying from Spokane to St. Louis, get from the airport to the Gateway Transportation Center, and then on Amtrak 306 to Bloomington, IL. I know the Metrolink has a station at Lambert and I know it runs very close to the Transportation Center with its Civic Center stop. My question is: where and how far in relation to the Civic Center Metrolink stop is the Amtrak portion of the Transportation Center? I know it's not far at all (within perhaps a block) but my mom is a tiny bit restricted in mobility and can't walk much more than that without stopping to rest, especially with luggage. Again, I know it's not far at all, but my mom and my sister (and me, for that matter) are not at all familiar with St. Louis, and I'd like to know, on their behalf, the particulars for them. Thanks!!!!

It's close, but just load a few St. Louis cab phone numbers into your phone before you leave and call a cab it there's any question.

The Metrolink stop at Civic Center is right across the metro station tracks to the Amtrak station. It's perhaps a 400-foot covered walk from the Metrolink platform, with no stairs, into the Amtrak station. No need for a taxi, period. When you board at Lambert, get into the last car of the Metrolink. That car is closest to the track crossing and walkway to the Amtrak area. The Transportation Center is not all that big; a Greyound counter and waiting room, an Amtrak counter and waiting room, a tiny Pizza Hut and one other fast-food counter. Clean and safe, though. I caught the train from St. Louis to Kansas City there last month.

I would echo wast GUEST said. No need for a cab. It is a very short walk. In fact, the MetroLink platform appears to be closer to the Amtrak/Greyhound station (Gateway Station) than to the nearest street. I've traveled to Gateway Station a couple times since it opened, and found it very easy to transfer to/from MetroLink.

Thanks for your replies! I told my mom about how easy the transfer between the Civic Center stop and the Gateway Station is and she was very happy to hear about it. And in our family, as I suspect is the case in a lot of families, if Mom's happy we're all happy!!!!!

This brings up a question. I wonder if the MetroLink stop will (should?) be renamed Gateway Station as well. Perhaps some of the St. Louis area members know if that has been talked about at all?

i have made this connection and you will be fine. it's a brand new facility and totally ADA compliant. you exit the metrolink train, walk up a ramp to the multimodal station building, then there are escalators/elevators to take you to the amtrak platforms. it's no more walking than you'll do inside of an airport terminal.

and yes, they should change the name of the stop to Multimodal Station to prevent such confusion.

Well I did that transfer and it was a distance of let's say 1000 feet, from Metrolink to the Amtrak train, with plenty of seats in the transportation center that covers about 600 feet of the way.

If you get a cab driver to drive you through the building (and down the escalators), send me a picture. :D
