We don't know, OCTA who owns the rail line is never in any rush to fix it and last time they were delayed by weather after taking their sweet time

Let us hope freight traffic can continue. But there is the problems of much heavy weight military freight. It can be a worry for a heavy M-1 tank or naval guns. Extra heavy loads might be subject to causing any weak soils to slide? That is my big worry without an alternative rail line.

Usually the tanks going to/from Camp Pendleton move via San Diego IIRC. So anything in San Clemente won't be affected.

Obviously if the Del Mar bluffs fail that's going to put a serious crimp in their movements.

No. The Coast Starlight does not go there.

This is south of LA Union Station, so no. There are no long distance passenger trains on that track.

Whenever tanks come by here they are always been on 4 truck - 8 axel DDOX flats cars. They are heavy.

I haven't seen anything on an update about the slide or the track assessment in the news. Given that I have an upcoming trip in the near future - close enough to think about it - when's the time I should call in and ask if/when my itineraries are going to change to meet the emergency timetable?

I would go ahead and look into alternatives now! They don't know and/or not ready to commit announcing a resumption of service yet.

Yeah - based on this morning's news, it sounds like I should assume the emergency timetable instead of the regular one. I was wondering in these scenarios (i.e., indeterminate end date with no information on estimated time of the next action) if Amtrak waits until the day of departure to update your ticket or if they work in a couple-day blocks of time. I imagine the bus companies are also asking for some advance commitments as well.

Worst case I can ride the Dog, or Flixbus. As I'm ticketed for Amtrak I don't think that'll be a concern yet.

They've been updating schedule on a week-by-week basis. Currently the bus shuttle runs through Sunday 5/14. They haven't made any changes to the week of 5/15 yet.

The week of 5/15 has now been updated with a bus shuttle.

A new schedule is supposed to start on 5/22. We'll see if that happens.

surfliner did a few weeks back they added a 5th RT north of LA

If you want up to date information regarding the track closure between Irvine and San Diego, google Pacific Surfliner travel advisories. Amtrak is providing bus service between Irvine and San Diego and the destinations in between. They do not know when regular service will be restored.

Are there buses that are specifically designated for Pacific Surfliner Business Class passengers?

Is checked luggage service available between San Diego and Los Angeles while the bus bridge is in effect?
