On that note. It’s thought that as of next week the Capitals summer consist will be 1 sleeper 1 coach 1 food service. That’s swirling all over other outlets. It appears and is backed up in a ways by the Steel rails article above that Amtrak is going with lack of equipment to run full consists now instead of lack of labor. If the comentary in the article is to be beleived Amtrak will not be doing a heavy overhaul on the Superliners and instead cannibalize them to keep a smaller fleet going. The official reason being why spend 2 million when we have a new equipment order coming as per the article.

Or we can convert the CL to single level equipment. Sure we need to gather the equipment and activate it, but that would be cheaper then wreck repairs.

With the addition of 25 single level sleepers there seem to be a math problem in there deployment. Can’t all be lay up for clogged restrooms.

I agree — this doesn’t seem to be a route that needs a sightseer lounge.

The scenery is beautiful, but I like looking at our eastern rivers and farms from closer up — right outside the window — not looking down at them.

And I realize I am in a minority of one, and I may get flex meals thrown at me for saying this out loud, but I don’t see the charm of the Sightseer Lounge. (She ducks out of the way as the overcooked pancake frisbee sails toward her, followed by the rock-hard omelet😁.)

I only went on Superliners once, to and from the Gathering in Portland and to and from Sacramento, and I just didn’t get the cozy feeling I get in the Viewliners. To be fair, much of that may have been because I found much of the country west of Chicago overwhelming — empty plains and scary Rockies — and never really relaxed til I got to Sacramento, which I loved.

Perhaps I would like the Superliner more If I rode the Cap. Ltd. in its gentler, more familiar countryside.

I saw this posted on TO. Reading it earlier this publication has multiple inaccuracies - particularly the Andrew Selden piece. I would take any claims with a grain of salt.
Yes I agree with the opinion part, but still appreciate the OP posting this. It’s nice to see other people thought and opinions. Even when you know that it’s not quite correct, and someone is interpretation the facts to fit a scenario.

Based on Amtraks recent "Track Record "( pun intended) for acquiring New Equipment, it'll only be about 10 years before the New LD Cars would be put into service!

Since Amtrak has such a good Maintainence Record, what could possibly go wrong with the current equipment during this decade ????
