OMG, that means that I WAS RESPONDING TO MYSELF! This is the first sign that I am developing a split personality! Aaaaah!
The only known remedy is to take a trip on Amtrak! :D
You're a day late and a dollar short with that suggestion.

As you can see by the indicator below it is 3 months, 3 weeks and 2 days until I board and get into my "California or Bust mode!" The tickets are bought and paid for, I have my prescription from my doctor so I can deduct it from my taxes and I'm in-patient-ly awaiting departure!

So until then, don't worry! I'll be able to handle it. ;) No you won't Sky! Yes I will Joe! I say you won't Sky! Don't tell me I won't Joe! <_< Sky, I'll tell you that you won't if I want! Don't be a lame brain Joe! Who you calling a lame brain? :( YOU, THAT'S WHO! {Fist-a-cuff ensues  )

Sheeze, it's getting worse by the minute. My train departure can't come soon enough! :p

Hmm, seems to all have taken on a life of its own since I left!

Thank you to everyone for the advice, especially on the hostels. While motels/hotels may be running deals in the summer, nothing beats a hostel for socializing with other people my age so I will go for that if it is available. Also, that 2 for 1 deal would be hard to use as not many people would believe me to be my friends parent, but I'll see if I can get away with it.

As for the destinations themselves, it may be fairly made up as we go along. We are currently trying to scrape together the pennies to go down to South America as well, so the chances of us knowing exactly whats happening until soon before the trip are low, when we know budgets so it may turn into only a few stops in the US and then jetting around S America.

Regardless, I really appreciate the help and just hope I can squeeze as much out of this as my paltry budget can afford! Maybe I'll just buy a neck pillow and go for coach.

The story of my life!

But my remedy comes tomorrow morning! :D (But it's not soon enough! Yes it is! No it's not! Wanta bet? Says who? Get out of here! OK I will! :p )

Now I caught it! My doctor says that it may take almost a month to cure it! (I'll do anything to get rid of it - even if it takes 12,000+ miles of Amtrak!)

Both of you have a good trip! B)

Here, this is to help the two of you to get revved-up for the trip:

"ALL'BOARD!"

I just hope they don't require a ticket for each of your personalities!

Yes, we tend to fantasize about having the freedom you do! Don't worry, have fun. America is surprisingly friendly (our politics aside). I recommend getting to the Rocky Mountains via Empire Builder or California Zephyr whenever you can. Amazing vistas! I'm a recent Californian, so I recommend seeing the Sierras via the CA Zephyr! I hope to visit Winter Park/Frasier on the CZ route in a few weeks if my work can make it possible.

Advice:

Take your time

Buy a roomette when you can

If in a roomette, bring wine/beer

Have fun!

Or a separate bed either, or maybe you would like your personalities to stay separate.

Aloha

There's an excellent hostel and hotel in WIP. Rocky Mountain Inn and Hostel. The hostel is about $20 per night and the hotel rooms are around $70 per night. It is the best and cleanest hostel I have ever had the priviledge to stay at. Plus, its 3 blocks from the unstaffed Amtrak station. Across the street is a Safeway grocery store as well! Have a great trip!
