I will say again. Obviously feel what you want about Amtrak management. But this has nothing to do with the election or DOGE. Trains had been doing a couple articles with the actual manager who is in charge of LD consists and service planning and you can see the decision making rationale that goes into it. It’s about demand and equipment availability. Those are the only considerations.

Thanks for adding some sanity back into this thread.

OMG. I just switched my April 6, 2025 trip from Chicago to LA, on the TE because I'm heard on this forum about track work around my date near St Louis and/or Fort Worth and I got worried. So I switched to the SWC on April 7, 2025. They gave me car 331. Now I'm hearing that the 31 car can be canceled if not enough people are on it, is this possible?

This article interviewing folks from Amtrak confirm that the Southwest Chief will be receiving the second full sleeper (331 car) starting on March 3rd, and that it will stay on the consist through Labor Day. There is nothing to worry about.

BTW, Amtrak does not adjust long distance equipment on a day-to-day basis, only on a season-by-season basis.

I get the feeling that the rate of Amtrak wreck repairs has definitely slowed so far this year, but I remember someone from Amtrak saying that most of the wreck repairs they had left were more serious and would take more time to do. We shall see.
Recently I think they've been focusing on getting mothballs from COVID active again, and they have succeeded. They're all returning to service this Spring.

I have a friend that was booked into car 4111 for an early April trip on the Floridian. Interestingly, a few weeks ago he was moved out of that car and into car 4110. When he called (to see what other rooms were available) the AGR rep told him that car 4111 had been removed, and the only cars available were 4110 and 4112.

Anyway, there's a chance the agent was wrong, but there is also a chance they actually removed the xx11 car instead of xx12.
(But this would explain why people still have reservations for the xx12 car in March).
Originally the Floridian third sleeper was to go on yesterday which is why there is a 10 car and a 12 car. They had to delay the addition of the third sleeper until April due to the Viewliner shop count so until then there is just a 10 and a 12. The driver of the current shop count is the lead times for parts - especially for Viewliner IIs.
