Texas Eagle Summer Consist

I have noticed that during the "summer" Amtrak changes the TE consist to:

Bag

Trans

Coach

Coach

SSL

DC

Coach

SL

But during the "winter" the consist consistently is:

Bag

Trans

SL

DC

SSL

Coach

Coach

Coach

Does anyone know approximately when Amtrak makes this change?

I assume by "SL" you mean sleeper. I may be wrong, but I understood that the coach and sleeper to/from 421/422 is always on the rear now year round for switching purposes in SAS.

That's been my experience, once in December and twice during summer.

What the traveler and Frensic say is now generally true for the Eagles but every so often the switching crew in SAS works it out so the consist is different than the "normal" one, hencevtakes longer to do the switching moves.

Veteran Conductors based in SAS have told me that this is so that the Switching Crew get more hours since the Sunset Ltd. is a 3X a week train and the Eagle lays over one night and returns to CHI the next morning.

I have recently seen 21/22 several times this winter/spring with the SLC up front, not on the rear. Now I traveled during the summer 2015 several times and also witnessed 21 & 22 with the sleeper on the rear. These were non 421/422 days when the switching occurs. To me the consist would remain the same all year since no additional cars are added for the summer like a few other trains.

I rode last Sunday, and it went baggage, transdorm, sightseer lounge, diner, three coaches, and sleeper on rear. . At St Louis a fourth coach was added behind the sleeper. I was told that they normally put the sleeper up front but due to a delay in El paso they just stuck the connecting cars at the rear.

Summer 2015, Every consist, 7 days a week, had the sleeper on the rear. So is the determination made in SAS (by Conductors) or CHI (Yard crew) or by management? And why a difference between Summer and Winter? Number of passengers going to/from LAX or CHI?

When 1/2 leave LAX and SAS, the Eagle's coach and sleeper is on the rear.

The winter consist took effect this week with 22 changing over today.

On 22 today (Tues, 10/11), boarding in Fort Worth. The sleeper is right behind the transition sleeper. The funny thing is that the conductor (who also boards in FTW) had to look to see where the sleeper was.
