Colin, when I had a sleeper a couple of weeks ago, I was told that if I wanted a seat in coach too, that was included in the fare, and I was welcome to have a seat in coach too if I wanted one.

Junebug
They'll let you sit there if a seat is available. But no you're not entitled to a seat in coach if you're booked in sleeper.

Congratulations!!! WOOT WOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT! You just reminded me, I joined this thread right before I started the thread about my train trip I was getting ready to take on 8/27-9/5, I need to get off my a** and post the pix from that trip :)

Just realised we are likely to be celebrating our 40th anniversary on the Canadian on the way to Vancouver!
:hi:  Nice way to Celebrate your Anniversary! Another Special Happening for the Memory Book! Suggestion: Enjoy some Bubbley in the Park Car and a Nice Bottle of Wine with Dinner in the Diner as you Roll across the Great White North!

junebug - Unfortunately, I believe that is fundamentally untrue, and perhaps a misunderstanding of the crew. For example, a train with x-coach seats and y-sleeper passengers will not have x-y seats available on a sold out train. A sold out train means just that - all coach seats will have someone in them between sold out stations, and all compartments that are open for revenue are occupied (with or without the max pax per compartment).

In other words, if you are a sleeper pax on a sold out train, don't expect a coach seat to be available to sit in. The base fare (before adding in the sleeper supplement) is NOT a coach ticket. It's a rail fare.

I don't really see much reason for a Roomette passenger to go to coach. The view is the same and the seats are larger and more comfortable. Plus, a table opens up for your laptop/crossword/etc.

Now bedrooms are a different story - the seats don't necessarly set up with the best window view.

We didn't get a roomette. We ended up getting the big bedroom, the one with the shower/toilet thingie.
