Jaffar Express which runs between Quetta and Peshawar was hijacked near Bolan Pass (near Quetta) near Macch in Balochistan by the Belochistan Liberation Army. They are reported to be holding hostages and there have already been a few casualties according to a few Urdu Vlogs.

Here is a report in the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times…

Here is a very nice presentation of the history of the so called Kandahar State Railway. The incident took place on this segment of what is today Pakistan Railway. Before 1947 it was part of the Northwestern Railway in undivided India…

Skip the Franklin Templeton Ad at the beginning. The Print videos seem to have that these days.

It seems that the siege has ended, with 33 militants, 4 Frontier Corps soldiers and 21 train passengers dead. 346 hostages could be freed.

And the usual to and fro follows. It is quite normal for governments and insurgents to spin tales to show themselves in good light and it is difficult to verify information about incidents in remote locations. So time to wait and watch for more concrete information with more verifiable evidence to come out.

There are interesting videos from Pakistani bloggers becoming available but they would be quite inappropriate for this forum and they are in Urdu anyway.
