When and where will they be deployed? Doesn’t seem like the route structure is that big? Supposedly cars are on property but mum seems to be the word? Website has great descriptions but no real info…

The additional cars might also be in reserve for future service expansion, with several longer corridors being promoted for reinstatement of passenger trains.

Maybe the Mexican government decided that this was a good opportunity to get good second hand equipment at a decent price and that it would be unwise to pass on the opportunity, even if they had no immediate demand.

I agree that Yucatan is itself too small to justify high value sleeper trains.
