Not sure why yet, but just heard from my friend who's a crew member on #3(28) they are being turned at ABQ and will be headed back to Chicago now. Wildfires? Freight derailment?

Hi Rob. Greatcats of former Ketchikan fame here. 3 and 4 both show as a disruption. Estimated time for 3 at ABQ 8:30pm. That sounds dire, turning 4 to return to LA, which is what I think you meant.

Not sure why Rob, but with #3 early into ABQ and #4 out of Trinidad "On Time" this Morning,( Both now shown in "Service Disruption"") there has to be something going on around ABQ, but can't figure out why they'd turn both trains there if something happened between ABQ and RAT???

I feel bad for the crew --- they had pretty packed trains and worked 2 days on #4(25) and worked 2 days on #3(28) and now will have to head back to Chicago before heading back to LAX again. UGH! Just doing narration on the railroad is enough for me... couldn't handle an on-board position like that.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

That is hazardous enough to justify the early turn-around. At least with the rockslide, one less huge boulder to worry about after the mess is cleaned up. By the way, how would a coyote and a roadrunner trigger a rockslide (I would have to watch the "road runner" to see an impression of this). Does not look as bad or common as the Puget Sound mudslides that frequently happen during the Northwest rainy season, though.

If you watch some of the old Wile E. Coyote cartoons, there are multiple scenes in which Wile E. Coyote tries to trap/kill the Road Runner with a boulder:

The scenes with the catapult are my absolute favorite. He fails splendidly, over and over again. :)

Has the train turned its back around yet (back to its origin), or are they still stranded?
Apparently, there was no "turn around" and train 4 arrived in Chicago on time today and train 3 is operating. The 4 that left LA last night is currently about 3 hours late between Dodge City and Kansas City.

Couldn't the 4 that is late be the 3 that was turned around? And the 4 that arrived on time be the one that through before the Boulder?

Neither of the trains which was turned has reached its final destination yet; This just happened yesterday evening.

Train 3 turned back east to become train 4, and the original train 4 which departed Los Angeles turned back west to take the place of train 3. Both are still on the move, several hours late, as of this morning. Eastbound number 4 which arrived Chicago yesterday afternoon was not part of this.

The boulder was at Glorieta. We saw it from bus and it was a big one. I was on 4 in ALB and at 12:45 we were given 15 min to gather belongings to be bussed to Raton to get on 3 which was turned around to head back to CHI. We passengers all were ready and boarded busses but staff couldn't get act together and we sat in bus for an hour. We took off for Raton and our bus broke down an hr out of ALB. No kidding. Had to wait another hr for new bus. Tempers were a little high. Made it to train about 7:30 and eventually got underway and fed. We are in between Lawrence and KC now.

I'm too old for this stuff........

I hope my return home on the SWC is, to quote Gene Wilder in 'Silver Streak' when asked why the train? I want to be bored.

Sauve- Thanks for the first person report. I was most curious as I live along this line and use the SWC. Thankfully it was not a derailment or a collision and nobody was injured. The lateness of the trains who were turned isn't too extreme, considering what happened. Hope the rest of your trip goes well.
