On a recent trip, the “truck monitor” alarm went off in my coach. Despite how loud and scary it was, the crew just reset it. What does this alarm indicate?

It may be serious, usually the bearing is failing. The train may have to stop and have conductor inspect it to make sure. If it does, the train may go slowly to the nearest siding and disconnected the car from its trainset.

Isn't it connected to the Milepost Defect detector?
No. This is an automated alarm attached to the Amfleet cars (and maybe others). 99% of the time when the alarm goes off, it is a false reading or malfunction.
