I got an email today advertising up to a 45% bonus on buying points, but when I clicked through it looks like a 50% bonus is the max instead. For reference, the normal "cash value" of points is around 2.67 cents/point (rising to 2.8 cents/point if you have an AGR card), and the effective cost at 50% is 2.51 cents (dropping to 2.45 cents/point if you use an AGR card).

I took advantage of the points sale and purchased 50,000 points and received a 25,000 points bonus. The only problem with this is that sleeper fares are skyrocketing in price so many points are needed to book.
I received a similar email yesterday (02/10/2025) offering "up to 50% more points" when one buys or gifts points through 02/17/2025. I might take advantage of this to buy sufficient points to book at least half (either westbound or eastbound) of this fall's planned California Zephyr trip with AGR points, in combination with the points I already have. (I'll want to book the complete journey to or from my hometown, including the transfer at Chicago, as a single reservation, especially for the eastbound trip, so I can keep the guaranteed connection at Chicago.)
