Perhaps a better question might be "What precisely is the latest version/edition of the Amtrak Service Standards Manual?" Unless that is known, you don't know if the one you have is indeed the latest. But I have a sneaky suspicion the employee manual or any information about is held "close to the vest" based on what I read under the "Employees" section here: http://www.amtrak.com/about-amtrak I mean, after all, how would a lowly customer even dare to find out what an Amtrak employee is supposed to do. Of all the bloody cheek! Harrumph!!

How about this, what is the latest version you have/know of? I will tell you if that is the latest.

Just so you know, I find the crack you made a little insulting. Not all Amtrak employee's cut corners and ignore the manual. There are plenty of us who follow it as best as possible, so I wouldn't really care if you knew what I'm suppose to do, even if the vast majority of the book would have no effect on you.

All generalizations are false, or so Mother said. In my experience the good/great Amtrak outnumber the sloughs ten to one, maybe even twenty to one.

Sorry I ruffled your feathers. Should know better than to try posting something like that before being fully awake. Anyway, my wisecrack was actually directed at Amtrak management - not the working folks I see on the train. The working folks probably have no say in the availability of the Service Standards Manual. And while I've only taken a handful of trips, all the working folks have been great - especially the cook on the last trip. Made a point of going back to the diner (after it was all cleaned up after the last serving) to congratulate him on the superb meal prepared for the wife and I.

Again - my apologies.

P.S.: Moderators, please delete my previous post (#30). Must have had a senior moment.

I was talking with an acquaintance of mine who is an assistant conductor on AmCal. He mentioned that they're now on Version 9 of the Standards Manual, has anyone FOIA'd for this new one yet? The most recent one I have is version 8.

Technically it's not effective until the 30th I believe. I don't have mine right next to me at the moment. And oh boy you're out of date then. :p It went to 8.1 and 8.2 before jumping to 9.

I've got 8.2, looks like I need to do some digging.
They just began distributing 9.

Aside from normal tweaks, a wild guess would be sections or revisions have been added to deal with the new baggage policies, the bicycle policies, and the expansion of the pet policies.

it isn't much different than version 8.4. It mostly updates the luggage policies, facilities etc. That book is so thick, I see train crew utilizing red caps and the wheelchair lift to get it on the train.
