Using awards points for existing reservations

I just booked a trip using points for part of it and paid reservations for the rest. In the meantime, my unused points jumped to a little over 15,000. I have to pay for the tickets within a week. Question: is it possible to apply points to an existing reservation that hasn't been paid for yet?

(If not, no biggie, I'll just accumulate for the next trip!)

It is possible. The AGR agent will just cancel then rebook your trip using points. However, there is a small (but unlikely chance) that if you have the last room that someone may grab it between the agent's canceling and rebooking! (The chance is probably less than 1%!)

Yeah, the exact same reservation can't be used, but the agent can try to recreate your itinerary as a new booking and use points from the start.
