Hi.

Question: Has anyone figured out how to take advantage of the $49 fares or any reduced fares without a discount and use the upgrade coupon?

I wanted to purchase a ticket between NYP and RTE but the fare is $49 right now and if I buy it and the rate doesn't change, I can't use the free upgrade coupon.

What I care about most is the time -- they best times for me to travel are the times that, in this case, just happen to be the $49 rates.

Is there a way to call Amtrak to get a regular fare at the time I want even if it on the website as a $49 fare?

Hope this makes sense to you more experienced, smarter folks! :)

Wait till less than 14 days before travel to book it? That's when the special fare "disappears".

The $49 fare is absolutely compatible with the AGR upgrade coupons, and any agent who says otherwise is mistaken. Tell them to check the fare rules for the $49 fare in their system, and they will see a message that AGR upgrades are valid.

Agreed. The AGR Insider on Flyer talk has repeatedly say that these are valid.

Definitely valid. AGR Insider will help in situations where the coupons are not accepted and get the agents retrained.
