It's not an official event sponsored by anyone. No one takes responsibility for anything that happens there except for the individuals themselves. No matter what the city council does some people will show up and moon the trains.

However, there is a darker side to the event. I have no problem with nudity, but it isn't just an event where people moon trains. There is also flashing and public drunkenness. There have been no fights reported, either between participants themselves or between participants and police. However, it's not the innocent tradition that some people are making it out to be. Just being honest.

However, I say on with the show.

OMG! Where do they think they are, NOL?

Having attended the event a number of times, though not last year; the cops and city council are getting out of hand. The cops (Sheriff's Deputies actually) have always been there and seem to enjoy the show. The comments from the head Deputy about "controlling" people shows to me a public official drunk with power. If they put a few more deputies there and did a bit more traffic control, all would be fine. I've been there when they have closed the street to traffic and it was cool. Reports from people there last year were that the cops went overboard.

There's always been nudity and drinking - it's sponsored by a BAR! They typically set up a hamburger stand outside and make a killing. If they provided more porta johns most of the problems would be solved.

There are very few businesses affected by the crowds - it's a Saturday and most of the businesses are small time contractors shops and a sewage plant. Most of these don't really have customers, and not much at all on Saturday.

An interesting side note about the new law against drinking in public. Most of South Orange County was County territory and only became incorporated cities in the last 20 years, some only fove or so years ago. Most of them have taken a long time to actually pass no drinking ordinances; we've had that little benefit for awhile.

You say that like it's a bad thing.......

I never said it was a bad thing. I really don't care what happens at this event. I'm just saying as an outside observer, you cannot paint this as an innocent little event. Knowing how uptight people can be, I'm not surprised there's a backlash from the city.

It's certainly not an "innocent" event. Butt, it is on a deadend street. Yes, people can be uptight - butt they'd have to go out of their way to find this place. See my above post for a little more history.

I hope I can be there this year; I've always had fun.

The bar where this happens is tiny, more than 75 people and the crowd spills into the parking lot and street.

Most of this cities residents live high on a hill in horse country in their big estates, the bar in question is down in a valley in an area the city council would prefer not to know other than the tax revenue.
