I took my parents on a trip to New Orleans last weekend, and the Sunset Limited had a couple of crewmen on the return trip who really went "above and beyond" to make our trip especially pleasant. I'd like to write a formal letter to Amtrak customer service to thank these employees. What's the best address to use to ensure that it gets to someone who can recognize them for a job well done? (Note: they are based out of LAX.)

Most of the time calling Customer Relations is a Quicker way to get Info to the Route Managers! Id suggest you do this (1-800-USA-RAIL,) when Julie answers ask for "Agent", then asked to be transfered to Customer Relations, they really enjoy getting Positive feedback from Riders since most calls are Complaints and Problems!

While I agree that they'd be pleased to get the call, I can see the OP's point about wanting to write a formal letter.

Having said that, on Amtrak's website under the Contact page, there is no mailing address given! Perhaps you should make the phone call and give your thanks verbally, then get them to tell you where to mail a letter.

I'm glad you and your parents had a good experience.

You could certainly call Amtrak, ask for Customer Service and then ask them what address is best if you'd like to put it in letter form. I'm sure the employes your writing about will greatly appreciate it.

I don't think sending a letter to 30th Street Station will help. The address I gave is the correct one.

Don't know who the people in D.C.are but I sent a letter (as per reservations agent direction) to ACSD in Philly about a situation I had with a LAX-CHI-WAS and return trip in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012.

Got a letter back (signed) from AMTAK CUSTOMER SERVICE DIRECTOR in Philly with an apology for the poor service and a $500 voucher.

Take it for what it is worth.

Also if he wants to send it to "specifically" reach a LAX based crew he can send it to Operations Manager at either:

1303 3rd Street

Oakland, CA 94607

530 Water Street

Why not tell us who they were and what they did? I'd be interested to hear who on the Sunset staff went above and beyond. Seems rather curious to ask the forum a question that hundreds of Amtrak agents should be able to answer without telling us anything about what happened or who was involved.

Specifically there was Lloyd, our coach attendant, who went out of his way to return (by mail) a personal item that my mother had accidentally dropped from her purse (I had given him a business card earlier for an unrelated reason, which is how he had my contact information) during the trip, and I also want to commend Heather, our dining car steward, who was more pleasant and helpful than any other dining car employee that I can remember in recent history (which includes my round trip to DC this past May). It also helped that we were on-time or early the whole way; I suppose I also owe thanks to the BNSF and UP dispatchers. My parents normally would rather fly or drive (I'm the train buff in the family), but this trip left them with a good feeling and a willingness to try it again.

I had David on the Sunset this month (10/12) as LSA in the dining car. He is a top notch employee. Then on the Texas Eagle I had Adam as my SCA for one leg of my trip. He is new, starting about 6 months ago. Another EXCELLENT employee. Two conductors I had on the Eagle, John and OJ(?) - from SAS to FTW, and again from AUS to FTW - were some of the nicest I've ever had the pleasure to meet, and this is after I backed into John, spilling coffee onto his clean, white shirt the first run. We joked about it the second run, with him telling me I couldn't spill coffee on him this time, as he only had one clean shirt. :p And Ken, the LSA in the cafe on the Eagle, and I talked a long time about many things Amtrak. He almost never closed the cafe, taking very short breaks. When I asked him about it, he said: "While I'm aboard, why not stay open as much as possible?"

My only dilema is that each of these employees need to be recognized for excellence, but I don't want to dilute the message for any of these individuals.
